Jio jitters felt in parts of Delhi, connectivity outage hits citizens

Soon after Reliance Industries' revolution into the telecom sector - Jio - was formally launched, an outage on its competitor networks hit Delhi on Thursday, September 1, 2016. Concentrated around the southern district of the city, many residents complained of an accelerated rate of call drops and network congestion.
As per sources, the outage was apparently a move to pump up existing tower routers to match the data speed and voice clarity of those to be offered by Jio.The move had a cascading effect on users already using Jio SIM cards. Calls to even Jio-enabled phones didn’t go through due to the traffic load on the common towers.

It wasn’t until late in the night that normalcy was restored. Would we be seeing similar ‘downtimes’ implemented in the near future given Jio’s entry? Our sources nod their heads and smile.
Earlier in the day, Reliance Industries’ chairman Mukesh Ambani unveiled the details of the upcoming telecom network at the company's 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) in Mumbai.

Ambani dedicated Jio services to realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a digital India. As per the business mogul, India presently stands at No. 155 in mobile broadband internet access rankings (among 230 countries) and Jio's launch will lift India's rank to amongst the top 10.
Reliance Jio will start offering services from September 5. The new player will be offering data at Rs 50 per GB, which is lowest in the world.
